"a generalist search engine incorporates too much information"
"A generalist search engine incorporates too much information, too much webpages; as a consequence, it impacts on the relevance of the results. Too much information kills information. The real challenge for a search engine is to differenciate a blog and a website that deals about a specific topic." Based on this fact, it is very likely that the market will be based on verical search engines." He is also underlining the fact that the websurfer insctinctly go on specialised search engines rather than on generalist search engines, especially in the e-commerce market.
These observations finally meet our standpoint on boardinGate : we are filtering, selecting and categorizing the information feeds to prepare, inspire and share your travel experience !

INTERNET 2.0 : Kesako ?
If you are still wondering about it, you should read this article from “Libération”, noticed by Laurent Bazet, which summarize pretty well the new version of internet, the 2.0.
I particularly appreciated the part which dealt of the “search topic” with an interview of Jeff Clavier explaining why vertical search has a true value.
I'm using the term "vertical search" to speak about boardinGate since I met Jeff. Indeed my first question during our diner was :"Jeff, what do you mean by vertical search ?"
Since that time, I put a name on what we wanted to do with boardinGate : a vertical search engine dedicated to ONE particular area: the TRAVEL.
I also found another interesting article from Forrester linked with our project. It’s about the social marketing and his 4 flavors :
"Consumers' trust in traditional forms of advertising is waning. In 2004, less than 50% of consumers trusted TV and radio ads, and only slightly more trusted print ads. What's more, consumers increasingly say they're bombarded with too many irrelevant ads. These negative attitudes toward traditional marketing have led consumers to take measures to block direct mailers, telemarketers, and TV advertisers from their homes in an accelerating consumer ad backlash…
Four flavors of social marketing :
1–Word-of-mouth (WOM) Marketing
2– Blogs
3–RSS
4–Podcasting”
More information here
Those 4 flavors will be axial within boardinGate, with a important stress on the WOM, and especially on the “Travel WOM” aka the TRAVEL CONVERSATION !
I end this post with the teaser of Liberation :”The future is back. And this time it's true !”
